Identify the object behind the alignment

Click around the affected section in the source editor. Cell boundaries, table tools, resize handles, or floating-object controls suggest that the layout is built from objects rather than ordinary paragraphs. A table can be present even when its borders are invisible in the finished document.

Look for a split relationship: the organisation is in one cell, the date in another, and the bullet list in a third. A person can infer that these belong together from their position. Extracted text might not preserve that inference. Start with the section that actually breaks rather than stripping every formatting choice from the file.

Reconstruct an entry as a coherent block

Create a new body paragraph containing the entry title and organisation. Put dates on that line or the next line, then place the evidence bullets beneath it. Use paragraph styles and spacing to make the relationship visible. Do not press the space bar repeatedly to simulate columns: that introduces a fragile alignment that can shift during export.

The example below keeps the same project facts. It does not turn a college project into employment or invent a performance result. The purpose is to make a technical contribution travel with its project name when the file is copied or parsed.

Check repeated patterns across the whole resume

Templates often repeat the same object structure for Education, Experience, and Projects. Fixing one block can leave the next block broken. Compare every repeated entry after the first successful repair, especially where a heading crosses a page boundary or a date sits at the far right.

Skills deserve a separate check. A grid of skill names can become a run of disconnected words. Group them into short labelled lines such as Languages, Databases, and Testing, but only include groups that fit your actual background. Avoid replacing a parsing problem with an even longer unsupported keyword list.

Know what a simpler file does not prove

A readable export helps you inspect the content. It cannot establish that an employer will shortlist you, that the employer uses one particular ATS, or that a generic score represents the employer's decision. The final attachment and the application fields are separate surfaces that both deserve review.

If the employer supplies a required template containing tables, follow the instruction and complete it accurately. You can still verify populated fields and ask the employer about a genuine technical issue. Do not disregard explicit application requirements merely because a general formatting article recommends simple paragraphs.

Use this when entries split into unrelated fragments or an invisible-table template produces inconsistent extraction.

Once the paragraph version reads correctly, check whether each project bullet names your contribution. A clean structure makes ownership easier to see, but it cannot establish ownership that was never described.
