Separate the three link failures

First inspect the displayed text. Is it a real address, a label such as Portfolio, or an outdated username? Next inspect the embedded target in the editable document. Finally, open the destination without your existing signed-in session. These checks answer different questions and should not be collapsed into one click.

A resume can show a new GitHub username while still linking to the old account. It can also link correctly to a private repository that the author can open but a recruiter cannot. A third possibility is that an export removed the hyperlink even though the address remains readable. Repair the failure you can reproduce.

Make the evidence understandable without a clickable label

Use a short, readable address for the project or profile. If a long link contains a temporary access token, expires, or exposes private information, create an appropriate durable sharing route instead. A QR code or chain-link icon should not be the only way to reach the evidence in a text-focused application.

Pair the address with a concise explanation of what it proves. A repository link beside a project should lead to relevant code and setup information, not an unrelated profile with dozens of empty repositories. Avoid shortening services that obscure the destination or create another point of failure.

Recheck after exporting or changing formats

Open the saved PDF independently of the editor and test each relevant link. Also copy the contact and project sections into plain text. The extracted text should still provide a useful address even when an employer's system does not retain hyperlink annotations.

If you convert a PDF back into DOCX for editing, repeat the checks after that conversion and after the next PDF export. A link that worked two file versions ago does not prove the current attachment is correct. Keep the final submitted copy rather than relying on a live source document that continues changing.

Fix access without oversharing

For a portfolio case, prepare a public sample deliberately. Remove personal information, API keys, private client material, and documents you do not have permission to publish. If a work artifact cannot be shared, describe the contribution accurately and provide a sanitised explanation rather than exposing the source.

Test the public page on a phone as well as a desktop. Confirm that the main evidence appears without a download request, account switch, or missing-file screen when the hosting service allows that. Links support your claims; they do not replace a clear description of your own work in the resume.
